Song Lyrics - I Turned to See the Sunset (and all I saw was you)

81

By The Suburban Poet

I Turned to See The Sunset (and all I saw was you)

This is a tale that reminds of my former home, South Padre Island, Texas and a local bar on the bay called Tequila Sunset... it's not necessarily a true story but in fact it is true because every man has had this moment... I'm hoping this can be put to music someday....

(This was featured on the Hubpage's Song Lyrics home page the week of 12/21/10):

Another half full glass, loud talkin' times
My friends together, speaking in rhymes
Full of ourselves, wearing our pride
It's just another night when everybody lied

Times are good and life is great
My mind does not know its coming fate
Suddenly someone tells me "you need to see the view"
I turned to see the sunset and all I saw was you

I turned to see the sunset and all I saw was you
The colors of the sun framed what was so true
An angel from heaven appeared out of the blue
Now, I'll never stop, until you say I do

I stood alone not knowing what to do
Your eye I tried to catch with a long look at you
You seemed to notice me but in a fleeting way
All I could think was don't let her get away

My feet started walking, my mind was a mess
Your beauty all I see, covered by your dress
We are near each other, you have an expectation
I have your interest, no time for hesitation

I turned to see the sunset and all I saw was you
The colors of the sun framed what was so true
An angel from heaven appeared out of the blue
Now, I'll never stop, until you say I do

Small talk drifts, panic setting in
I must keep her interest or she won't be my friend
Romance my want, your love for me only
My words are honest, you'll never be lonely

It seems my mind is what you admire
My words are setting your needs on fire
We can leave together or pledge to meet again
Now has come the time to let love in

You aren't just a moment
You are a lifetime
How can I win you over?
How can I make you mine?

I turned to see the sunset and all I saw was you
The colors of the sun framed what was so true
An angel from heaven appeared out of the blue
Now, I'll never stop, until you say I do

Petra,

It is my way of describing the nerves a man feels when he see's the angel in a bar or in a restaurant and the ensuing "what do I do now?" moment.... How do I get to know her? How do I show her I'm "different" from all the other men? Like in "Broken Bottles; Broken Dreams" will it just be a moment that passed or is this the one?

My first impression was akin to a Georgian chant...staccato statements, singsong rhythmic beat, breast-beating declarations of love, and a quiet demise...I enjoyed this singalong prose , all the while thinking to myself: This guy is suffering from a fear of failure...The lady in question is in a bar for crissakes !...

Bars are meat shops by and large...Conviviality is the side dish, flirting is the main course...vibes are bouncing around like tennis balls, and you know it when one hits you...if the reciprocation is there, go for it...turn " just another night of lies " into a night of discovery and truth...Good luck, my friend...and remember, there's nothing like swimmin' with bowlegged women...Larry

Maven... you're pretty funny man! A night of men lying about how great they are to one another and then the truth is revealed in the eyes of a woman glowing from the corona....

maven101 profile image

maven101 Level 5 Commenter 19 months ago

Was she glowing because of the Corona you're drinking, or is that some inner corona she emits..?

She was an eclipse and I was drunk.... so you were half right.... but funny as usual... classic...

Yeah it could be anything... I think men fall in love real quick.. we don't care about their job or their balance sheet or their car or anything but that smile you mentioned... thanks for the kind words...

This is so beautiful. I could just imagine this with a melody. Girls with a romantic bone will absolutely love this. I do. Every man who has a girl to win over should memorize this and recite this to her..:) God bless you.

That's a wonderful impression of fascination/infatuation at first sight. Not to confused with love.

I have felt those feelings before, for sure.

This was very well written, and quite passionate.

Good work :]

@Kiss and Tales - Thank you! I wrote this thing a long time ago; way before all these poems that I've produced. I thought long and hard about that little bar in South Padre Island and how things were when I was young looking at a beautiful woman that I longed for...

So romantic wow! a young man then, I am looking forward to reading your poems , I am really new here on hubs! I thought I try my hand at poetry and lyrics ,so much more peacefull then forums where people argue who is right or wrong! I tried to post my poems but it seems I only posted one and realy three are showing , what did I do wrong! want each one published instead of the three togather.thanks for writing me it was my pleasure that you took the time to write me back! kiss and tale. ps please excuse my grammar I am working on it! I use alot of ! to express my Idea of how i feel. thank you again.

The Suburban Poet Hub Author 7 months ago

Thank you again K&T... what you need to do is open a new hub for each poem. I think you only opened one hub and put them all in it. That's what I did when I started here.

Yes it is much better here with our feelings of kindness, fear and love than with those who have hate in their heart. I have posted some things about anger in my life but I only say these things for myself to learn and to cope with life. I do not wish to argue with others.

Your poem had so much meaning, it was perfect! I wish i could writes as good as you.

The Suburban Poet profile image

The Suburban Poet Hub Author 6 months ago

@Elizabeth - Thank you for saying that. I've checked out a couple of your hubs and as I wrote on one, I think you are very advanced for your age so don't feel pressure to compare yourself to me or anyone else. It's not a contest; it's about expressing yourself as you see the world and in your own unique style. You have your style and even if you wish to change or improve (as you want) it's a journey and it's about expression of your innermost feelings. Just be honest. Try to learn new words... use a thesaurus if you need to... that's ok... just don't rhyme for the sake of rhyming. Find the right word for the context of your story... As for this piece I'm really surprised it has stayed as highly rated as it is. I wrote it several years ago and it was almost on a lark but it is true in the sense that I've been in this moment before....

Love this poem! So glad you admit: My feet started walking, my mind was a mess . . .

An angel from heaven appeared out of the blue

Such a visual and heart-felt song!

@ol-la-la - Thank you! I have no problem admitting that I get nervous when I meet a beautiful woman. It happens everytime. I'm pretty confident but there is always that moment where you wonder if the next thing you say is going to sound stupid. I'm not a pick-up artist anyway so it doesn't happen much...

@missolive - Thank you. Yes the sunsets are great! Have you been there? Wahoo and Tequila Sunsets and Scampi's are all great places to watch it melt (assuming they are all still open). I appreciate you reading and your kind remarks.

Maybe this will be a line used during Spring Break?? And then the 2 people will fall in love . . . and live happily ever after!

It could happen!!
