Song Lyrics - I Asked For The Love I Couldn't Give

55

By The Suburban Poet

I gave her some of me
And turned on her light
Should I say you’re welcome
Or give her my life?

Now she’s smiling at me
And sends the sun my way
I feel the pressure to love her
I’m not sure what to say

I didn’t want to love you
Just wanted to say hello
Now that you’ve fallen
I don’t know which way to go

I’m not ready
To fall in love again
Maybe I shouldn’t have called
Maybe I shouldn’t have let her in

I always do this
Come on strong then stop
I just want to know
If they’ll be mine or not

It’s an ego trip
No doubt about that
It’s wrong to play with her heart
The hurt I cause is gonna’ come back

Now she’s smiling at me
And sends the stars my way
I feel the pressure to love her
I’m not sure what to say

I didn’t want to love you
Just wanted to say hello
Now that you’ve fallen
I don’t know which way to go

It’s always about me
I’ve always been this way
Every time I try to change
I always say, ‘Not today”
Why do I need
To see a girl fall?
I always take her love
Then put up another wall

Now she’s smiling at me
And sends flowers my way
I feel the pressure to love her
I’m not sure what to say

I didn’t want to love you
Just wanted to say hello
Now that you’ve fallen
I don’t know which way to go

Beautiful.. If this poem is a catharsis.. I suspect you haven't tangled with someone who has been difficult to catch. Very open, honest, and touching.

@tammyswallow - Thank you. Hey... when I re-read this thing I thought, "God what a freakin ego you have Mark." But I'm trying to be honest about what is happening at times in my life. It is there and I wrote it. I'm glad you were able to read it and not come away disgusted at the assumptions of my desirability to women that I laid on your table.

I've been rejected before.

@jandee - this is somewhat egotistical but in a sheepish sort of way. The protagonist is all about himself and wants to see the woman light up but not for a lifetime of love but for the validation of his own greatness.... sad huh?
